Vaccum Cleaner

I was using a cordless vacuum cleaner and had to empty it. I go outside to empty in bin only to find no rubbish bin. I realised it was rubbish day so walked up the drive to see if bin had been emptied and no it hadn't. So I walk back down driveway, back inside and think how I'm gonna empty the vacuum 🤔 After some thought I found a bread bag and took vacuum outside and emptied the dirt into bread bag. Eureka 😎 I call this problem solving Kiwi Ingenuity.

Too early to make mistakes

The job that felt forever was a stocktake. I was assigned to a glass cabinet with sooo many perfumes. It took a lot of time to get through them, more so the top shelf too high I needed step stool to reach.

To start the location I pushed boxes right to back of cabinet and didn't realize there was a gap and you guessed it 2 items fell down and I didn't know where they had fallen 😬 After telling my supervisor he said to make a note and add the fallen items when found.

Also I was trying to scan barcode and it wouldn't work. I checked with supervisor and turned out I was scanning QR code 😅 It was after 0700 and I don't do mornings. Having a sense of humour got me through 😜

Gotta say the supervisor has to be patient with me and I'm sure I give them a lot of laughs 😆

Cut it Straight ✂️

Used to be a Teacher Aide and was using a guillotine to cut paper straight. I was so focused cutting paper straight I didn't realise the top bit of my thumb was in the way of the blade. I pull down the blade and not only cut the paper but also the top of my thumb. I saw I was bleeding and went to bathroom to run my thumb under cold water, but the blood wouldn't stop. I saw the receptionist and showed her my bloody thumb, she had a weak stomach and got a teacher. The teacher bandaged my throbbing sore thumb and drove me to the Accident Clinic.

After my thumb was seen to and treated I ended back at work using the guillotine to finish the job, no joke this really happened.

I learned with no use of my thumb how incredibly useful it actually is, it holds things like cups etc.

I think back now that then late 90s that incident would have never happened with proper training how to use the paper guillotine. Safety in the workplace has definitely improved since then.

The Run I Thought Would Never End 😩

I used to be a Postie delivered mail on cycle. This particular day it was close to Xmas so mail was very heavy. My job position then was known as a Casual Postie. A Casual Postie takes off some of a regular run and cuts the load for the Permanent Postie. This day I was called in and had lots of mail to deliver. Out on the run there are overflow bags holding the mail that can't be carried all at once. This day I went from overflow bag to overflow bag and it seemed to never end 😔 By the time I got to the 14th overflow bag, yes I said 14th I was practically in tears feeling bloody overwhelmed 😭 I was approached by a kind lady who was concerned I was still out delivering mail after 5pm. She saw how upset I felt and gave me a slice of cake 🍰 Her kindness gave me strength to carry on till the very end 🥰

I finally finished and got back to the office after 6pmish. I was pissed off 🤬 If the boss was there I would have quit. I couldn't believe one Postie was expected to handle 14 overflow bags on their own. What a test for my sanity 🙃 Amazingly despite this experience I didn't quit and continued as a Casual Postie, good thing I never was put in that situation again.

Locked in bathroom

 Hey all 🙋‍♀️

Welcome to my blog. Enjoy reading all these work stories I will share with you based on my own personal experience. Feel free to share your stories too, I'd love to read of your experiences.

I do home help and do regular housework for a household. I get to work, go straight to the bathroom and shut door so puppy can't get in. After cleaning bathroom I go to open the door but it's stuck 😕 I push and pull the handle trying to get the door open but nothing works. Thankfully someone is home. I call out but not heard so I use my cell phone to call them. They answer and I feel really stupid having to tell them I was locked in the bathroom and couldn't get out 🤭We both end the call and she comes to see why I'm stuck and the door won't open. We both can see a latch that's locked itself stopping the door from opening. After attempts on her side of door to get me out she ends up having to call her husband at work. With her husband on phone he gives her instructions how to unlatch the door, but it had to be done from my side of the door. I listened intently what to do. After many tries I finally un latched the door. I was stuck inside the bathroom for half an hour. Once the door was open it stayed open. Despite losing that time I continued cleaning to the end.
